Artisan Hand Roasting
Since 1969, The Coffee Company has been hand roasting coffee daily in store for our devoted and loyal customers.
It is this history and heritage that gives us our belief that small batch, drum roasting is the best way to unlock a coffee’s true potential.
Our retail store is equipped just like a manufacturing roastery with a unique nine silo green bean handling system which pneumatically loads the green beans from the silo area prior to roasting and carries them right up to the roaster. This system enables us to continuously roast the volume of coffee we need each day right in front or our customers every morning.
Our 15kg Vittoria Intercomercial cast iron drum and convection air coffee roaster provides remarkably even heat distribution and control. Our philosophy is to manually control every roast. Unlike computerised roasters, this allows us to adjust each roast with meticulous attention to detail, so that outside variables like humidity and temperature never impact upon our coffees. Since our batch sizes are small, we are able to keep our artisan roasting process hands-on, responding immediately to sights, smells, and sounds, in order to capture the peak of flavours in each coffee at just the right moment.
Freshness
We roast daily to meet demand, the same coffee that we retail, we also wholesale. In fact we don’t warehouse any coffee at all. Each day our roaster plans a new roast list according to what coffees are required to meet wholesale, retail and internet customer demand that day. So the coffee you order today will be fresh roasted, every time!
